Our novice squad is made up of 9th through 12th grade boys and girls who are new to rowing or have not competed in a regatta in the previous year. The weekly schedule has the Novice rowers M-Th, 4:30-6:50 pm, with a Friday optional workout at the same time, and plans for Saturday workouts to be determined. We welcome all youth interested in trying a new sport. Rowers focus on physical conditioning, rowing technique, and teamwork, then gradually move into competition against other teams. Novice rowers get experience rowing with both sculling (two oars) and sweeping (one oar) and in a variety of boats. In the spring we complete in several sprint (2K) races, including the Long Beach Invitational. The spring season culminates with the US Rowing Southwest Regionals Championships in Sacramento in early May.
