Novice Program

Our novice squad is made up of 9th through 12th grade boys and girls who are new to rowing or have not competed in a regatta in the previous year. We welcome all youth interested in trying a new sport. Rowers focus on physical conditioning, rowing technique, and teamwork, then gradually move into competition against other teams. Novice rowers get experience rowing with both sculling (two oars) and sweeping (one oar) and in a variety of boats. In the fall, we typically compete in four head races (5K) and in the spring we complete in several sprint (2K) races, including the Long Beach Invitational. The spring season culminates with the US Rowing Southwest Regionals Championships in Sacramento in early May.

Fall ’17 registration will open in August.  Please check back!
